I believe we are not determined by our past but that we are affected by what has happened to us and our life experiences. Things that happened in our lives may interfere with our ability to feel secure as self-sufficient individuals, impair our ability to relate to others, or prevent us from feeling comfortable taking risks to reach our goals. Sometimes things have happened which overwhelm our ability to cope and we find ourselves adopting unhealthy behaviors that we know are not necessarily helpful but we don’t know what else to do. Fortunately, once we come to know these things, we also gain the ability to change them profoundly.
With an understanding of the ways our past is influencing our perceptions, feelings and behaviors we can create new ways of relating to ourselves and others and find new ways of building meaningful and joyful lives. Together we will look at those things that have contributed to your becoming who you are today. We will examine what is working in your life and what is not. We will explore solutions that reflect who you are and who you would like to become.
My work with individuals and couples is grounded in a collaborative approach where we will work together to identify specifically what is blocking you and what is causing those blockages to persist. Because of my training, I am able to help you gain insight into these factors and can provide you with concrete tools to help you get past them. It will be up to you to prioritize those changes you would like to make and to set goals to implement the new skills you will learn in your work with me. Because we will be working closely together, your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs. Because of this tailoring, you will find solutions that will fit your unique life and personality.
